On health & wellness

What advice would you give someone having a rough day? Remember, you’re just one thought away from turning your entire day around.

What’s your favorite wellness tip? Long walks—they’re great for your body and your mind.

What’s your favorite thing to do with your girlfriends? Create something! I love collaborating with my friends and incorporating their skills and talents into my life. Creativity is the medicine to life, so any chance to create together is a win. And of course, I’m always down for dinner and drinks with them too!

What’s one piece of advice you’d share with someone beginning their health and wellness journey? Start small—pick one thing and focus on that. With so much information out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Just incorporate one healthy habit at a time.

What’s something you changed in your life that made a big difference? Meditation. It’s easily the biggest game-changer for me. It brings mindfulness and intention into my days.

On business

How did you get into the music industry? I always knew I was meant to be in the music industry. I started recording when I was 16 with a family friend. Then I auditioned for a talent show in Orlando, and after that, a producer flew me to Los Angeles right before my senior year of high school—and the rest is history!

How do you start writing a song? Do you begin with the melody or lyrics?
I usually start with lyrics, but every song is different. My friend Drew comes over to write, and he’s an incredible guitar player. Afterward, we give the bones of the song to my husband Andrew, and he transforms it. I’m really lucky to have such a talented team around me.

What inspires you to create a song or album? My biggest muse is myself, and my life experiences are my biggest inspirations.

What advice would you give someone trying to break into the music industry? Honestly, don’t do it. (laughs) But seriously, it’s a tough industry, so if you do, make sure you have a solid support system.

What’s something you wish you knew when you were starting out in the industry? I always heard the industry was toxic, but I didn’t understand what that meant until I experienced it firsthand. My advice? Keep your family and close friends nearby—they’ll keep you grounded.

What is your favorite song you’ve ever created?Silky”! I wanted to experiment with my voice, so I sang the entire hook in falsetto. It became a signature sound for me, and I’m really proud of how it turned out.

Can you tell us about your businesses and where to find you? I run a jewelry business called Poppy Moon. It actually started by accident, but I’ve fallen in love with it. I make earrings using real fruit preserved in resin. You can check us out on Instagram and our website is launching this Friday!

Any new albums coming out? I’m working on something new, but with the kids and running two businesses, it’ll take a while! I’m also learning to play the ukulele, which has been a fun new challenge.

Any upcoming jewelry drops? Yes! My new jewelry line, Desert Charm just launched along with a brand-new website for Poppy Moon.

On motherhood

What does a typical morning look like for you? I usually wake up around 7 AM, or earlier if Sunny, my 3-year-old, and February my 4 month old decides so! I make Sunny breakfast while sipping on some coffee and jot down a small checklist for the day—nothing too overwhelming, just manageable tasks. Once Sunny has eaten, I drop her off at school, then dive straight into my workday as a social media manager and my jewelry business Poppy Moon. I use a walking pad and a floating desk, so I walk about two hours every morning while working.

What advice would you give to a new mom going through it for the first time? There’s so much I could say, but the most important thing is to trust your instincts when it comes to your child. It’s easy to compare yourself to other moms, but remember that their children are completely different from yours, so what works for them might not work for you—and that’s okay!

What are some of your favorite things to do with your daughters? I absolutely love sitting in their room and watching hem play. I enjoy seeing my oldest pick out her clothes and hearing her little stories about the things in her room. Mommy-daughter dates are a favorite too—whether it’s going out to eat or heading to the movies together.

What is your favorite memory with your daughters? Watching them play with their older cousins is something I cherish. It always hits me that I’m witnessing their childhood in real-time, watching these core memories form right before their eyes.

Did motherhood come naturally to you, or did it take time to find your rhythm? It felt very natural to me from the start, though finding the rhythm definitely takes time. But as your children grow, you grow with them, and that rhythm naturally develops.

The full list of favorable mentions are linked below with a brief description.

What is the best type of gift to give, or a go-to one for you? An experience, for sure. I love giving memories rather than material things. Album Recommendation: Aaliyah’s One in a Million is my all-time favorite. It was the first time I realized you didn’t have to belt like Christina Aguilera to create something timeless, sexy, and amazing. Book Recommendation: My favorite book ever is Call Me by Your Name by André Aciman. He writes like no one I’ve ever read—the book feels like a diary straight from someone’s soul. It’s so honest and raw. Skincare Product: For hair, I’d recommend getting trims every three months. For skin, try glycolic acid for bumps on the back of your arms, and if you have angular cheilitis, Destin diaper rash cream works wonders. Beauty Recommendation: Ditch the filler and just use lip liner for a natural, fuller look. My favorite lip liner is “Anywhere Caffeine” by Make Up For Ever. It’s a really nice natural color that you can lightly line the lips with. What’s one product you’d recommend for a mom of a toddler? I’d definitely recommend the Wildbird carrier—it’s been a lifesaver!
